Phil Collins’ latest album “Going Back” just hit #1 on the UK charts. The album celebrates Phil’s longstanding love of Motown et al, which fans remember from his 1982 remake of the Supremes’ “You Can’t Hurry Love.” With The Unshaven One appearing as himself as well as his own backup singers in the music video, Phil pulls off a giddy if not underrated performance, if only for his perfect Pips’ moves (if you want to see how tough it is, Remember David Lee Roth try to dance with himself in Van Halen’s Panama?). This clip was directed by Stuart Orme, a early Phil & Genesis collaborator, but Phil would go on to establish a longstanding partnership with the great Jim Yukich as his go-to director, working together on Genesis’ award-winning “Land of Confusion” video and Phil’s piss-take MTV tribute “Billy, Don’t Lose My Number”.
