On Thursday, Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle” show, in which celebrities compete against each other by emulating big hits in front of a studio audience, debuted a new commercial to publicize its third season on the network.
The 2 1/2 minute trailer is a re-enactment of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” video, with LSB hosts Chrissy Teigen and LL Cool J reprising the gang leader roles, paying tribute to much of the original Michael Peters choreography and replicating many of the set pieces and costumes. Dropping by for solo cameo moments — each wearing Michael’s trademark red jacket — include Don Cheadle, Wanda Sykes, Uzo Aduba , Craig Ferguson, TJ Miller, DeAndre Jordan, Jay Leno, Jeff Dye, Milla Jovovich, Ruby Rose, Lupita Nyong’o, John Cho, Rob Riggle, America Ferrera, Sarah Hyland, Regina Hall, Laverne Cox, and Samira Wiley.
Via email, we asked original “Beat It” director Bob Giraldi his thoughts on the new clip, debuting nearly 33 years after the original.
“It’s fabulous,” Giraldi said.”Love the dancing.”
“Where were all these stars when I needed them?” he also joked. “Not born yet, I guess.”

Lip Sync Battle’s new season begins Wednesday October 12th on Spike TV.
